Roles (Independent Contractors)
BetterPears Fellowships including Greenhouse Fellowships are operated by independent contractors who fulfill three important roles: guide, host, and hospitality. Each independent contractor is carefully selected and continually rated by BetterPears to ensure each fellowship is an insightful, comfortable, and deeply enjoyable experience. By engaging independent contractors, the individual talents of each guide and hospitality shine forth. Each host is free to display an individual style and add accented accommodations.
While in some circumstances a single independent contractor may perform more than one role for a fellowship, the harmonization of these roles flows into the harmony among the fellows who take turns reading, discussing, and listening. Payment for services is based on a transparent division of registration revenue with the opportunity to offer premium goods to fellows according to role.
If you love the wisdom of your betters, have a heart for service, and also the ability to provide one or more of the services described below, please consider applying to become an independent contractor for BetterPears.
Guide

Leads the fellowship as someone who has traveled this path before. The guide is not an instructor but rather a facilitator who invites the fellowship to engage the text and discuss the wisdom it offers.
Host

Shares the comfort and communion of hearth and home with the fellowship. The host ensures a safe, clean, and comfortable venue for fellowship reading sessions.
Hospitality

Offers choice food and drink for the fellowship. While not full meal service, hospitality provides for the nutritive needs of the fellowship so that fellows may focus on attentively listening and reading.

Outline of Contracted Service
(for Approved Independent Contractors)
Pre-Fellowship

All: Agree to engagement, compensation (as a percentage of registration revenue), and a Minimum Registration Revenue Threshold for the fellowship at least 21 days prior to first session.
Guide: Arrange to sell a copy of the session text directly to fellows who signify this intention during registration.
Host: Communicate with fellows who note special accessibility accommodations for their participation. Confirm on-site prep time with Hospitality.
Hospitality: Communicate with fellows who note special dietary restrictions during registration.
During Fellowship

Including 30 minutes before and after official session times
Guide: Facilitate the fellowship session by selecting readers, offering questions to the fellows when necessary, and directing the discussion. Announce the mid-point break, and resume the session for the second half so that the official session ends on time with the opportunity for another 30 minutes of small group conversations.
Host: Provide parking (on-street or off-street), access, registration, introductions to Guide and Hospitality, reading space, food prep space, & restroom. Additional BetterPears Merchandise or stationary supplies may be sold to fellows directly.
Hospitality: Provide either Regular, Premium, or Coffee, Tea, and Pears (CTP) hospitality service depending on the terms of the engagement. Additional premium food or beverage service may be sold to fellows directly.
Post-Fellowship

All: Invoice BetterPears for percentage of revenue compensation once the fellowship revenue settles 2 days after the final session. The calculation of compensation from registration revenue is transparent to all roles for each fellowship.
